The Resurgence of Football

1948 was the magic year that collegiate football returned to SPC.  It took a few years but the Cardinals made it back to the championship title game.  Although they did not win, SPC came in second in the conference.  The following years were plagued with injuries and inexperienced players but the now SPC Eagles persevered.  1971 was one of the best seasons to date as the Eagles celebrated their 50th anniversary, were first in their district, and had "Coach of the Year" in the NAIA district Tom Beck.  Coach Tom Beck ended up winning multiple "Coach of the Year" awards and multiple players were voted to the all star team under him.  Many players throughout the coming years would become All American, All Regional, and All Conference players.  Benedictine's best season after the war was in 1986 with a record of 9-1.  The team's season records dating back to 1917 can be viewed on the Athletic's website: http://www.benueagles.com/documents/2011/2/11/Record_Book.pdf
